I Don’t Want to Leave South Africa

I have finally launched the website for my project at www.outspoken-fulbright-mtvu.xyz !  You can watch all the video interviews, music videos and graphics I have created while in South Africa on this website.

I really do not want to leave South Africa; I can honestly say that this has been one of the best years of my life!  I have not discussed my personal experiences in depth in these blog posts because I did not want to detract from the features on the artists I’ve interviewed, so I am going to use this post to recap some significant events from my year abroad.

I am also a rapper; while I was in Grahamstown I performed my music at the local club Monastery.  I am always nervous about how my music will be received around new audiences who are not familiar with my work. I had a few people come up to me and tell me they had never heard lyrics like mine before and found my content interesting.

Though I am no longer in South Africa; I am going to continue to work with the artists I’ve met here. Currently, I am working on animations for Push Push’s Blood In music video. Also, in the near future, I am going to be doing green screen animations for musician Umlilo. Umlilo’s music videos are truly stunning and I’m very excited to have a part in creating one!

My Fulbright-mtvU experience has been invaluable to building my professional portfolio and finding creative work internationally.  I’ve acquired the skills and connections to start my own business doing free-lance music videos for artists who inspire me, which has always been my dream job.

When I was in Cape Town, Push Push (whose real name is Nicci St. Bruce, by the way, and it seems more appropriate to call her Nicci in this context) and I fell in love and she proposed to me. We are currently engaged! We had a low key engagement party at a Karaoke bar. We are both performers, and Karaoke is one of our favorite pastimes.

Here is one of our engagement photos:

Nicci is going to visit me in the States this year and we are planning to get married next year. I will definitely be returning to South Africa in the near future; it really started to feel like my second home!
